5 ways to work on your mental health this Autumn

5 ways to work on your mental health this Autumn

If you’re a lover of cozy blankets, fuzzy socks and warming drinks, then you will know the excitement of the incoming season.

Autumn is the perfect time of year to focus on all things self-care and being the best version of you. But with all the tips, tricks and guides out there, knowing where to start is often the first hurdle. That’s why we’ve put together just 5 simple things you can start doing right now to help you work on your mental health this fall.

Get out of the house

Regularly getting fresh air is vital, especially in the colder months. The best way to begin is to start small: go for a walk, head to your favourite coffee shop, or sit in your garden. Wrap up warm with your favourite jumper, fluffy scarf and gloves, and brave the cold - you might just be surprised at what good it can do.

If you live near a beach and are feeling brave, head out for a sea swim in the icy waters. If a city centre is more your scene, treat yourself to a shopping trip or head to your favourite gallery.

Curate your space

They say your home is a reflection of your mind, so having a calm and tidy space can be a huge step towards having a calm and tidy mind.

Adding small touches around the house which give off that comfy vibe can really improve your mood. A candle here, a blanket there, a new themed cushion - all adding the perfect touch to give a warm aesthetic. We love this Smoked collection for the perfect autumnal colours

There are lots of guides to help you organise and plenty of resources if this is something you struggle with.  This is a great one.

Reading

Snuggling up with a good book is the epitome of comfort. Whether it’s a self-help book, a historical drama, or a laugh-out-loud rom-com, reading is proven to improve your mood. So step away from Tiktok, give yourself an achievable goal, like 20 minutes or 2 chapters, and just read. It does wonders.

You might even find it hard to put the book down after a while (we’ve all been there). Let your mind run away with the story and enjoy the moment of peace.

Mindfulness/routine

Everyone preaches about mindfulness and it can sometimes be difficult to visualise how it can help. But it can make a significant impact on your stress and anxiety levels, and improve your focus.

There are many ways to introduce mindfulness into your routine - journaling, meditating, practicing breathing exercises, mindful eating, etc. - it’s just about picking something that fits into your lifestyle and keeping at it.

Yoga

Keeping your body moving can be one of the best ways to lift your spirits.

You don’t need to commit to intense workouts or long gym sessions - a gentle yoga session can do wonders for your body and mind. Moving regularly helps release those feel-good endorphins and keeps your energy levels steady. If you’re worried about flexibility, then don’t. Start at an easy level and slowly build your way up to those more daunting exercises.
