Afternoon Tea Week takes place from the 12th to the 18th of August, 2024. This delightful event is a celebration of one of Britain's most cherished traditions—afternoon tea. It’s the perfect excuse to gather with loved ones, indulge in expertly crafted treats, and sip on your favourite cuppa.
The tradition of afternoon tea dates back to the early 19th century and was popularised by Anna, the Duchess of Bedford, who introduced the concept of a light meal to bridge the gap between lunch and dinner. What began as a private ritual soon evolved into a social event, complete with dainty sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, and an array of sweet pastries.
Many cafes, restaurants, and hotels across the UK will be offering special menus and events to mark the occasion, making it easy to find the perfect spot to celebrate.
